You are transforming the 4-conductor telephone cable into a loop with 4 turns of wire. My home-made circuit continuity tester has both a beeper and a light that come on when the circuit is closed. Twist the two long wires together so that they have approximately 2 turns per inch. Watch out for kinking. Build a base for your antenna out of wood, plastic pipe, or other insulating material. Or, depending on the location, you could hang the antenna from a ceiling. Drill a hole in one side to let the wires through.
How to Install a CB Antenna
For North American consumers the release of these radios is going to be a little bittersweet; yes the radios are awesome, yes they are now available, but if you want one you’re going to have to purchase from a dealer in Europe and have them ship it over. Are the radios worth shipping over? You’ll have to make that decision on your own.
Great antenna. Works perfect with my Cobra handheld CB. It mounts anywhere. I put it on the hood of my jeep and it stays put, period. It has a long cable so you can literaly mount it anywhere. Make sure you buy the adapter for it that let’s you hook it up to the CB.
Where you install the CB itself is only important in regards to its ease of access and the orientation of the speaker so you can hear it. But overhead may not be an option and determining a mounting location is not always easy. If you are mounting under the dash or on either side of the center console, just make sure you have enough leg clearance. There are many companies making CB mounting mounting brackets, some of which are vehicle specific for some trick installation locations.
Mic Brackets — Most sets come with a mic mounting bracket that often can be attached to the side of the CB itself. Consider your cable routing when choosing your set mounting location. You can purchase a small CB radio remote speaker that use a male mono audio plug. Sometimes even a small speaker mounted in a convenient location will do. But my speaker is mounted in the dash using the old single speaker location in the CJ dash panel.

Nov 19, · So with the little wilson or the wilson I’d just hook my cb up then screw the antenna in and toss it up on the roof and go? Do you guys run the antenna cable out the window (side or rear sliding) or out of the door then close the door on it?
Just a couple questions about the little wil or the wilson Amazon does not show the wire of the Wilson http: Same with the Little Wilson? Yes, it is a one piece design. Do you all leave yours on your trucks all the time or just put it out when you need it? I leave mine on all the time, use it every day. If you do not leave yours on your truck all the time where do you store the whip part in your truck? The unscrews at the whip, the Little Wil does not. Does the magnet bottom mess up the paint of the truck?
Yes, but it’s the roof If I wanted I’m guessing I could just throw it out the back window on to my metal toolbox correct?

If the antenna standing wave ratio is not set correctly, not only can you damage the radio, but you will have a poor radio signal and may not be able to hear or be heard by any listeners. After you have installed the radio and hooked up the CB antenna, you are ready to set the SWR standing wave ratio. Look at the meter as you press the microphone key. The standing wave ratio should be in the desired range of 1. Try this step on Channel 1 and then on Channel

Guide to Scanner Antennas by Mike Diaz There have been many questions regarding how to select an antenna for scanning. This is a Readers Digest version of antennas, meant to give new users some idea of the different antennas and their good and bad points. This is not an all inclusive book on antennas, but rather a guide for novices in their quest to learn more about their scanning hobby. Whats the best antenna? There would seem to be as many different answers, as there are people asking the question.
Everybody has a favorite band that they listen to, and different antennas work better on different frequencies.

The radios have lost much of their popularity since the advent and more common use of cell phones for mobile communications. However, the CB is still used in some areas for communication during sporting activities such as hunting or fishing or for other short range personal communications. The mobile CB, designed for use in a car or truck, can be used as a base unit in the home with a little modification.
Because mobile CB radios are designed to operate in a vehicle, it utilizes a power supply of 12 to 14 volts Direct Current DC. The power supply will convert the volt household current to
If you have a CB radio, you need to know how to match the CB antenna so that you do not damage the radio. If the antenna standing wave ratio is not set correctly, not only can you damage the radio, but you will have a poor radio signal and may not be able to hear or be heard by any listeners.
I usually find that about feet pipe length is sufficient to mount the antenna into the rotor. The end result is the boom of the antenna is about 40 to 50 inches above the last mast support creating a stable mount. The less an antenna wiggles and jiggles the longer it will last. Channel Master Rotor Model Keeping the mast at a minimal height increases the stability of the antenna and reduces the stress on the rotor.
This adds to the longevity to both the antenna and rotor. The installation order of things goes like this. Each particular item comes with directions pertaining to assembly and installation. Install the mount according to the type you have. You may want to visit:

The most important and often overlooked step in installing a mobile CB is tuning the antenna. While a properly tuned antenna will result in strong radio performance, a badly tuned or untuned antenna can result in poor performance and can even damage your radio. Before you start fiddling with the antenna, it’s important to understand the basic theory behind tuning as well as the term “Standing Wave Ratio” SWR.
What Is Antenna Tuning? Tuning is the process of adjusting an antenna so that the radio’s output power is turned into radio signals as efficiently as possible. In more tangible terms, it involves incrementally increasing or decreasing the length of the antenna. The goal of antenna tuning is to match the antenna’s physical length with that of the radio frequency being used, so as to ensure optimal performance and transmission efficiency.
